Mekong River Adventure Trek 3 Days / 2 Nights (ID: XK-TK-03)
Start-Finish: Muang Sing town or Luang Namtha town
Duration: 3 days / 2 nights
Departure: 7:00 am from Luang Namtha town or 8:30 am from Muang Sing town
Difficulty: Moderate and some difficulty, short hill climbs and descents
Trip Overview:
Adventure trek in Luang Namtha, LaosSteep trek up the mountain visit remote ethnic groups of Akha and Tai Lue villages where China and Myanmar border, enjoy the stunning views on the surrounding mountains and Mekong River, first night stay overnight at the traditional Tai Lue house and the second day sleep with Akha family.

Day 1: Muang Sing-Ban Mom-Ban Buag Ya Say Mai-Ban Bohae-Ban Xay. Approx. 6-7 houses
Departure from Muang Sing 8:00 AM or Luang Namtha 7:00 AMThe tour start by truck go to Ban Mom and Ban Buag Ya Say Mai (Akha village), then start walking from Ban Bohae (Akha village) to Ban Xay (Tai Lue village) the village located on the bank of Mekong River opposite Myanmar border and where we stay overnight for the first day, lunch will provide by local food on the trail. Around 17:00 you will arrived Ban Xay.

While waiting for dinner walk on the bank of the Mekong River to see beautiful sunset, visit people back from working, talk with the villagers to get new experience, learn about their culture and tradition and you will see style of leaving with the neighboring country such as Thailand, Myanmar. After dinner you will receive a massage which is traditionally given to the guests stay overnight in the village.

Day 2: Ban Xay-Ban Eula. Approx. 6-7 houses
After breakfast, 9:00 AM start walk up to Ban Lung Pha (Akha village) about 2 hours, spent the time about 20 minutes to visit the village and talking with the peoples. Then walk up to the mountain to Ban Eula (Akha village), lunch will provide on the tail. After lunch 2 hours walking visit Ban Loku (Akha village) where you stay overnight, they are Akha Jeejor, also to see Akha life and Akha massage.

Day 3: Ban Eula-The Stunning Views-Ban Meuto Kao-Muang Sing. Approx. 5-6 houses
After breakfast, depart for Ban Khor Phen, Ban Pa Xang (all Akha villages) visit them, playing with the children, how their way of life, enjoy the stunning views on the surrounding mountains and final take the truck back to Muang Sing or Luang Namtha the office you stated trekking.

Additional trip information
When packing for a trek, keep it simple. The fewer luggages you have to carry around, the more you will enjoy yourself. Wear a good pair of running shoes or lightweight trekking shoes.
Bring a small backpack which should contain following items:
  • Shoes; a good pair of running shoes are perfect, or even better are the lightweight trekking boots.
  • Absolutely essential are sun protection (sun lotion as well as a sun hat.) and mosquito repellent. Mosquito nets are provided in the lodges.
  • Warm sweater or pullover during the cold season (October/November to February)
  • Flash light
  • For women a sarong if you wish to shower at the waterfall.
  • Sweets or snacks for your own consumption if you wish.
  • Special medication, if needed. The guides are equipped with a basic first aid kit.
What You Don’t Need:
  • Blankets are provided, so there is no need to bring a sleeping bag.
  • Mosquito nets are provided.
The adventure treks only open from October to next year month June. During the cold season from December and January, we recommend a fleece and long pants as temperatures can drop down a lot at night. In the hills and mountain of Northern Laos especially Xieng Khaeng Region, Luang Namtha temperature can drop down as low as 5o Celsius (40 o Fahrenheit) at night or early morning hours, so be prepared!
The hike can be strenuous, therefore suitable for people in good physical condition. Expect to walk 5-6 hours during the third day of the program, and 6 to 7 hours on first and second day.
Village accommodation: participants must be aware that there are no western-style toilets and washing facilities. Sleeping is on a bamboo floor, dormitory style. Sleeping bags, foam mats and mosquito nets are supplied.

Trekking itinerary is a basic guideline only and subject to change.
All trekking areas are supervised by Laos Tourism Administration, which means all areas are frequented by tourists.
